What exactly does "standardized herbs" mean?

I'm looking for an alternative method for menopause systems. A friend is pushing a website on me that sells herbal products but I do not see any mention of "standarized". How important is this?
Answer:
Standardized herbs guarantee a certain amount of the "active ingredient" of an herb, or are the "active ingredient" isolated from herbs. The problem is that a single herb has hundreds of ingredients that help to make the herb medicine more effective and free of harmful side effects. Many of these chemical constituents are not even well understood by science, but still play a role in the plants healing attributes. You would do better to look for high quality herbs that are artfully combined by a knowledgeable herbalist, otherwise, you are just one step away from pharmaceuticals. You may have a qualified health care professional trained in herbs that can give you advice in your community.
Standardized herbs are more trustworth for providing with a consistent "dose" each time you use them. Standardized herbs are usually alcohol extracts and some freeze drying methods allow for standarized processing. In contrast, bulk herbs are as random as nature itself (or at least as seemingly random). That doesn't mean that have no value but certain herbal effects may be harder to control if you're dealing with bulk herbs.Ground, capsulized herbs are generally of a poor quality. They are very convenient but the grinding process exposes them to too much oxygen.
contrary to popular belief, it is bad.It takes a specific chemicals and alters it so that the same amount is in each dose as plants may vary in the amount they have; however, it is bad because herbal plants that have been traditionally used for centuries work because they work synergistically with other chemicals and nutrients in the plant many of which have not been discovered yet..When one alters God's perfect formula contained within the plant they alter how well it works and lose important side chemicals.I recommend a company who does not believe in standardizing herbs such as St John's wort, and uses the full plant as nature made it. Two great companies are herbpharm and the formulas of Dr Richard Shultze. Be sure to not use capsules as they are the worse way to take herbs, Use an herbal tincture as they are most absorbable and easier to take than teas and also pull more pytochemicals that cure and prevent disease from the herb. Also only use organic or wildcrafted herbs (as found in the wilds) as these have 7-10 times more important chemicals than the cheaper for the manufacturer conventional herbs.Best--Dr Richard Schulze ( herbdoc.com ) extremely potent see his piece why our herbs are the best.2nd best making your own. It is easy.using bulk herbs or fresh herbs..for how (plus fabulous other videos by him) go to google videos and type in Richard Schulze (about page 3 or 4) there he shows how to make herbal tincture it is very easy and they will be ten times better than 98% of the things on the market3. herbpharm brand..very excellent company found at many health food stores/co-ops and onlineps--left out of the video above is to finish put a cotton cloth over a pan gather up like a hobo bundle after pouring contents of the formula in twist a few times and squeeze out all the liquid into the bowl. Then put in a glass jar like a mayo jar or whatever and be sure to label with the contents immediately. Put an expiration date 5 years from the date squeezed (but Schultze has tried formulas 75 years old and found them just as good. I go over the 5 years myself. Place in a dark place or put in a paper bag or paint the outside of the bottle or use brown or blue glass as light harms it. Take some and put in a tincture bottle (usually blue or brown 1 or 2 ounce bottle with an eyedropper top and label, The dose for a 150 pound person is 2 dropperfuls (60 drops) for a 150 lb person 3-5 times a day depending on severity of the condition. For smaller people and chilfdren and pet and overweight people (like 300 lb pereson would double and 75 lb person would cut in half) use clark's rule. Also for menopause see Schulze's products as they excellent
