What is the best cure for gum disease?

Natural type cures are preferred
Answer:
Poor oral hygiene -- including improper brushing, flossing, or rinsing -- is the leading cause of gum disease. Other precipitating factors include a high-sugar diet, lack of vitamin C or other nutrients, and smoking (the chemicals in tobacco smoke harm gums and teeth). In addition, certain medications can make gum disease worse because they inhibit saliva production, which helps wash away bacteria and sugars. Genetic factors likely make some people particularly susceptible to gum disease. Women seem to be more prone to gum problems during pregnancy and menopause because of hormonal changes. Diabetes and other chronic diseases that can lower resistance to infection also increase the risk. Floss at least once a day and brush at least twice with a soft-bristle brush. It is important to use the proper technique, including brushing the tongue, which collects the same bacteria that stick to your teeth. If you're not sure you're flossing or brushing correctly, ask your dentist or dental hygienist to show you how. Plan to spend five minutes or so each session. Limit your intake of sweets and sticky carbohydrates -- or at least brush as soon as possible after eating them. These foods can accumulate in gum spaces and pockets, particularly in older people, who tend to have more exposed roots in their teeth. See a dentist at least once a year for a professional cleaning -- or more often if you have a problem that needs special attention. Try natural toothpastes and mouthwashes containing the herb bloodroot. These supply an antibacterial substance called sanguinarine that helps reduce and prevent the accumulation of dental plaque -- the first step in gum disease. Make a chamomile tea mouthwash using 2 or 3 teaspoons of herb per cup of hot water. Steep for 10 minutes, strain, and cool. Use as a daily mouthwash or gargle. Commission E, a noted panel of health experts in Germany that reviews herbal supplements, officially recognizes chamomile as an effective gargle or mouthwash for the treatment of gingivitis. How Supplements Can Help - Various supplements -- used together -- can help heal sore and bleeding gums. Benefits should be noticed within two weeks. People at high risk for gum disease can also take them on a long-term preventive basis. Vitamin C/Flavonoids : 1,000 mg vitamin C and 500 mg flavonoids twice a day. Coenzyme Q10 : 50 mg twice a day. For best absorption, take with food. Vitamin E : Break open a 400 IU capsule; rub contents on gums. Alternate with folic acid/vitamin C treatments. Folic Acid Liquid : Dip swab in liquid; apply along gum line every other day. Follow up with vitamin C powder. Alternate with vitamin E gum treatment every other day. Vitamin C Powder : Using 1/2 tsp. powder, brush along gum line every other day. Alternate with vitamin E treatment every other day. See your dentist if you experience red, swollen gums or loose teeth. It may save your teeth.
Have your teeth professionally cleaned if you haven't done so in the previous year.
Best cure is antibiotics... don't know about natural treatments...
Good Luck

"...CoEnzyme Q10 - has become the leading supplement that holistic dentists prescribe for the treatment of gum disease. There is still very little clinical research to support this, although Japanese researchers reported that giving gum disease patients 60mg a day for eight weeks brought about dramatic improvements. Take at least 60mg and not more than 100mg..."http://www.whatreallyworks.co.uk/start/q...taking a good quality multivitmain (if u have repeated bleeding gums) as this also indicates lack of Vitmian C, increasing your intake of it will help

Brushing, flossing, swishing with hydrogen peroxide and spitting REALLY kills germs (I do it before I go to bed) added bonus, teeth whitening :)
Don;t use anything other than natural. Eating apples can help, the bacteria in cheese helps. Brushing at least 2 times a day and flossing!! eating parsley too is good for a lot of ailments.
Talk to a local dentist ASAP.While gum disease can be attributable to many things such as diabetes, stress, and medications, the fact is that the majority of Americans who are afflicted with gum disease have nothing more to blame than a combination of poor dental hygiene, poor nutrition, and tobacco use (if you are a smoker). Gum disease is no laughing matter folks. It is a very serious and unnecessary risk to your health, not to mention your smile and ability to chew solid food into your twilight years. The early stage of gum disease is gingivitis, where the gums redden, swell, and bleed easily, yet can be reversed with professional cleanings and proper dental hygiene. However, if left untreated, gingivitis can progress into periodontitis. Periodontitis is much more of a threat, and with time, plaque can spread below the gum line, creating a breeding ground for harmful bacteria and toxins. These toxins produce a chronic inflammatory response that cause the tissue and bone that support the teeth to be broken down and destroyed. Gums will separate from the teeth, forming pockets which can become infected by the already present bacteria. Ultimately, if no action has been taken, the resulting bone loss and infection will call for the tooth to be removed in the afflicted area.Sadly, gums cannot regenerate themselves, and the bones that hold your beautiful teeth in place will not reform. But, if caught soon enough (before your teeth fall out of your head), gum disease can be stopped dead in its tracks, pockets will close up, gums will become toned and healthy, and the former threat of bone loss will no longer exist. For a good article "Bleeding Gums" visit:

  1. Create plantain paste. Plantain is another herb that can help with swollen, red gums. This herb comes as a poultice and should be mixed with a bit of water to form a paste, spread on a thin piece of gauze and stick between the cheek and gum to alleviate discomfort.

  5. If you think you have a gummy smile, visit your dentist for confirmation and treatment options. Your dentist will examine your mouth, teeth and gums to determine the extent of the excessive gingival display and any possible causes. This examination may involve conventional and/or digital impressions of your teeth and gums. You may also need X-ray imaging so that the tooth roots and jaw bone can be carefully examined. If you suffer from a severe gummy smile, your dentist may refer you to a specialist, like a periodontist, orthodontist or an oral surgeon. Depending on the nature of your specific clinical condition, treatment for your gummy smile will differ. Many patients coming from abroad are now liking the services extended by the dental clinics in India. They have also shared their reviews on their dental experiences on how they find the treatment and the cost involved. If you too are planning a smile correction then you can consider india as your option.
